Oxfordshire, a Sketchleys in Salford, Selfridges Oxford Street in London
and Ely Cathedral.
Rollright Stones Anish Kapoor (b.1954) Turning the world inside out, 1996 On
loan to the Rollright Stones, Oxfordshire from Bradford Museums, Galleries and
Heritage Acquired with a contribution of £20,000 from the Art Fund in
1997.
Anish Kapoor is one of Britains
foremost sculptors. Turning the world inside out is one of his first works
using steel and embodies his preoccupation with female and male symbolism with
its womb-like shape and indented crown. It also highlights his fascination with
darkness and light. The reflective surface acts as a metaphor for the cyclical
nature of cosmic regeneration, another of the artists
themes.
